University is organising a lecture by distinguished Islamic scholar and inspirational speaker, Abbas Husain, who will be discussing gender in the light of the Holy Quran within the purview of the challenges and contradictions of modernity. Mr Husain will elaborate how the Quran describes itself and how it can be read, especially in the context of gender justice.
AKU’s Working Group for Women emerged in 1994 and is an expanding, interdisciplinary group that aims to promote a supportive environment for progressive social change, especially for women. The group organises awareness forums such as lectures, workshops and seminars related to women’s health, education and social issues and conducts research in collaboration with other organisations that carry a similar vision.

Protect your kidney and save your heart’, the theme of World Kidney Day is being celebrated at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) on March 10, 2011. Kidney disease increases the risk of heart problems for people with diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. The speakers will cover topics which include chronic kidney disease, how to keep your kidneys and heart healthy, and will highlight the lifestyle and practices required to prevent kidney and heart problems. Patients with hypertension or diabetes can catch kidney problems early on through simple urine tests.
