Soetdoring Nature Reserve

Free State

The small Soetdoring Nature and Game Reserve near Bloemfontein does not necessarily belong to the highlights of a South Africa journey for its scenic qualities, but it has a compelling tourist attraction to offer. Even those who were not lucky enough or didn't have the time or patience to come across lions in the big game reserves, will be successful here.
In a small and well fenced area one can observe a pride of lions in natural surroundings. But of course that does not render them harmless here. On two occasions visitors who left their cars to take photos have been mangled by Soetdoring lions.

Soetdoring offers accommodation in train coaches now which are close to the dam as well as the lions. There is plenty of game around including wild dogs. Rates are R300 per night for six people. For further information contact the park office: Tel/Fax (051) 4339002.
